September 2025

Senate Bill 237

CVEC joined Senator Melissa Hurtado, Senator Shannon Grove, and our Kern County Board of Supervisors in celebrating the Governor’s signing of SB 237 — a major win for Kern County and our energy industry. This legislative effort allows up to 2,000 new well permits annually.

Kern County BOS SSREIR

CVEC participated in and provided support during the Kern County Board of Supervisors’ special hearing, where the Second Supplemental Recirculated Environmental Impact Report (SSREIR) was approved. In partnership with Kern Citizens for Energy, CVEC helped mobilize supporters and coordinated a list of speakers to voice support for the initiative.

Community Group Tour in San Joaquin County

The team supported CRC's Carbon TerraVault (CTV) by organizing a group tour for local leaders and community organizations, creating an opportunity to discuss upcoming projects and engage attendees in a Q&A to provide insights into local developments.

By October, we reached a monumental milestone! The Kern County Board of Supervisors approved the conditional use permit for CRC’s Carbon TerraVault I project. This victory was powered by hundreds of supporters who made their voices heard, demonstrating the power of our community's collective action.

In September 2024, the Kern County Planning Commission recommended approval for California’s first carbon capture and storage project, Carbon TerraVault I (CTV I). This recommendation marks a pivotal step toward sustainability and innovation, all while strengthening Kern County’s economy and job market.
